Taste (0%)
Touch (40%)
Smell (20%)
Analysis
The sample size was a bit small but as you can see the 2 categories were Sight and Touch. What surprised me is that Taste got no responses at all. I do think this was because of the fact the number of respondents was low.
Further, it would be interesting to know from what gender the responses came from as it may be different for men and women. Personally I think site is the greatest influencer as sight is the sense with the greatest capture range. You usually can see something before the other senses come into play.
As to taste I hope it is not an under-rated sense. Remember the taste of a kiss? The slight saltiness of skin? Oh yeah, tast works for me to.
As well as sound!
If anybody can link a good study about this subject please comment.
The only reason sound didn't get a vote is because I didn't see the poll. I find sound incredibly erotic.
ReplyDeleteI find this an interesting topic.
ReplyDeleteThere is a theory about how we represent the world around us in our minds which says we use a combination of our 5 senses, each to a lesser or greater degree, and we all do it in our own unique way. You can read more about it here:
The theory goes that most of us have a preferred sense which we depend upon most of the time. Most people are visual or kinaesthetic (meaning touch or feeling). However, in certain contexts it can all change, for example, the way we represent a business meeting might be very different to a sexual encounter.
On a personal note, I would represent sex as almost entirely feeling and words that come to mind are pressure, stretch, silky, smooth, slippy, heat, friction, etc. There’s also a lot of visual such as round, curved, taut, long, and some auditory such as moan, gasp and groan.
With just a few representational words it seems like an entire erotic story in one short paragraph.
