A Life in Ruins: Part 2

Looking vulnerable and sexy Wanilianna continues her "A Life in Ruins" series. Some great images to be had.

This theme and the setting is a long-time dream of mine. I find abandoned places fascinating. You drive past an abandoned farm house or factory and you wonder about the lives lived in these places. The hopes and dreams that grew from them and the tragic stories that led to their demise. The lighting, the texture of the broken down remnants of the interior and exterior spaces offer many opportunities for photography.

As a special treat I offer one of my attempts to express a moment in time. This was taken at the Waterloo Buskers Festival and I was trying to capture the intensity of the street artist's craft while emphasizing the use of colour in his work.

I would be interested to know which photograph is your favourite and why. Please click on each photo to get the full sized version.

  1. I prefer the second. In the first one I find the tattoo on his arm and the chalk boxes a distraction but in the second I can focus fully on his hands and the aspects they reveal.

Like you I find ruined buildings fascinating. One remains firmly in my memory from a small village in Tasmania, with a thatched roof and steel paneled walls it was quite unusual. I hope that it will remain and that it's gradual demise will not be hastened by safety concerns nor the activities of vandals.

  2. I also prefer the second one it's less cluttered and has a clean, dynamic composition. Quite a compelling image. That said, the first one works much better as photojournalism or reportage - it tells the story in a direct and elegant way.
